Quantity Surveyor (Building Contractor)

The main building contractor in Khayelitsha needs a QS who can price a tender and still defend a final account. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Location: Khayelitsha, Western Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Prepare the final account at the end of the project
• Draft subcontract agreements and payment schedules
• Use measuring software to do take-offs from PDF and CAD drawings
• Measure work on site for monthly interim payment certificates
• Value variations and prepare claims under JBCC or GCC conditions
• Track budget against actual cost and flag overruns early
• Take off quantities from drawings to build a bill of quantities

• You know the Standard System of Measuring Building Work
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables
• Accurate with numbers and able to back up every figure you certify
• At least 3 years of QS work in private practice or with a contractor
• Code 08 licence for site visits

• SACQSP registration as a Professional or Candidate QS
• Honours degree in Quantity Surveying
• Experience with civil bills using the SANS 1200 standard

• Paid SACQSP registration fees and CPD courses
• Travel allowance for site visits
• Hybrid days in the office and on site
• Study support for an honours degree

• Recruiters often give a short take-off test. Practise measuring a simple house plan under time pressure before the interview.
• List projects with their contract value and whether you worked for the client side or the contractor side.
