Refrigeration Technician (Commercial Cold Rooms)

Keep cold rooms cold and offices cool for the cold chain logistics company in Stellenbosch. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The site is in Stellenbosch; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls
• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Check chiller log sheets and water treatment on building service visits
• Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Complete service reports on a tablet and have the site manager sign them
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a

• SAQCC Gas registration as an authorised person for refrigerants
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat

• Building management system alarm handling
• Transport refrigeration units on trucks and trailers
• CO2 transcritical refrigeration experience in retail stores

• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you
• Standby pay for weekend fridge breakdowns
• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack

• Say which refrigerants and system types you have worked on. A recruiter for supermarket work wants to see CO2 or large rack systems.
• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
