Safety Officer (Open Pit Operations) – Permanent

The mining contractor on a platinum lease near Kimberley needs someone who knows the MHSA inside out and can coach crews. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Kimberley; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Take dust, noise and heat measurements with the occupational hygiene team
• Track safety statistics like LTIFR and report them each month
• Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions
• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
• Keep legal appointments and code of practice records current
• Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays

• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification
• Code 08 licence for moving around the mine property
• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• Detailed knowledge of the MHSA and its regulations

• ISO 45001 auditing experience
• Occupational hygiene registration with the relevant council

• CPD and further study funded
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs
• Retirement fund and medical aid

• Mention the commodity and whether you worked underground. Mines prefer someone who knows their hazards.
• Give numbers: how many investigations you led, or how the LTIFR changed in your section.
