Job Description

This retail and commercial builder in Cape Town CBD needs someone who can read the drawings and get a building out of the ground. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is in Cape Town CBD (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

What you'll actually do

Keep the site diary, daily labour returns and plant hours up to date
Coordinate subcontractors for plumbing, electrical, roofing and glazing
Book NHBRC and municipal inspections at the right stages
Set out foundations, grid lines and levels with the surveyor or a dumpy level
Plan the week's work from the construction programme and brief the gangs each morning

Must-haves

At least 5 years on building or civil sites, 2 of them in a supervisory post
Working knowledge of the Construction Regulations 2014 under the OHS Act
Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes
National Diploma or BTech in Building or Civil Engineering, or a trade background with site experience
Good with MS Project or a similar programme tool

Helpful, not essential

Worked on CIDB grade 6 or higher projects
Concrete technology short course
Surveying skills with a total station
