Job Description

You'll cook fast, clean food on the line at a hospital catering unit in Pretoria East. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

Home base is a hospital catering unit on the Pretoria East side of Gauteng. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

The work, day to day

Prep veg, sauces, marinades and portions from the daily mise en place list.
Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.
Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.

What you need

1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP
