Staff Nurse (Night Shift)

You'll give hands-on nursing care at a retirement village frail care centre in Umhlanga, working alongside registered nurses. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Umhlanga-based, with most of your time spent at a retirement village frail care centre. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Uniform supplied
