Job Description

You'll catch shoplifting and stock losses at an electronics store in Soweto before they cost jobs. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

Location: Soweto, Gauteng. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What you'll actually do

  • Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
  • Share trends with the store manager each week
  • Detain suspects lawfully and call SAPS, then write a statement
  • Search staff bags at exit points according to store policy
  • Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft

What you need

  • Knowledge of lawful arrest and search under the Criminal Procedure Act
  • Able to handle confrontation calmly
  • Available for retail hours including month-end weekends
  • Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4
  • PSIRA registration, Grade C at least

Nice if you have

  • Understanding of stock systems and shrinkage reports
  • Retail loss prevention course
  • Experience giving evidence in court

On offer

  • Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)
  • Monthly recovery incentives
  • Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores

How to apply

  1. Make sure the role, the hours and working in Soweto really suit you before you apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): PSIRA certificate and ID copy, loss prevention or investigation course certificates plus matric certificate.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Soweto.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Give numbers on your CV: how many cases you opened, how many led to arrests. Retail security managers trust results.
  • Show you know the legal limits of search and arrest. A single unlawful arrest can cost a store badly, so they will ask about it.
