Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the municipal infrastructure department in Stellenbosch needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Stellenbosch (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

The work, day to day

Write design reports and handover documents
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Work out loads to SANS 10160 for buildings and structures
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals
Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue

You'll need

BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
Registered with ECSA as a professional or candidate

Helpful, not essential

Contract management training for NEC or GCC
Registration with SAICE and active CPD
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
