Artisan Fitter (Conveyor Maintenance)

Planned maintenance and breakdown work on shift at the general engineering workshop in Centurion. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in Centurion (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors

• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers

• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Shift and standby allowances
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance

• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
