Job Description

Long hours, clean record, safe arrival every time: that is what a long-haul freight fleet in Cape Town CBD pays for. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a long-haul freight fleet. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

The work, day to day

  • Carry out fuel stops with the fuel card and keep the slips
  • Keep the logbook and tachograph or telematics records up to date
  • Deliver to customers and get proof-of-delivery signed and stamped
  • Do a full pre-trip inspection: tyres, brakes, lights, couplings and fluids
  • Keep the cab clean and report defects at the end of each trip

What you need

  • At least 3 years on Code 14 trucks
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) licence
  • Clean criminal record
  • Passport for cross-border routes
  • Valid PrDP (G for goods, D for dangerous goods on tankers)

Nice if you have

  • Experience on a specific trailer type (tanker, tipper, reefer)
  • Clean record on a telematics driving score

On offer

  • Provident fund and medical aid option
  • Well-maintained trucks with sleeper cabs
  • Overnight and subsistence allowance on trips

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): Code 14 licence card and PrDP (both sides copied), passport copy for cross-border work plus dangerous goods certificate if you have one.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 10 working days.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • List the trailer types and routes you have done, for example "tautliner, JHB to Durban, 4 years".
