Collections Agent (Student Accounts) – Experienced

You'll phone customers who have fallen behind and agree payment plans they can actually keep. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

The work is in Springs, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Track broken promises-to-pay and follow up within 48 hours.
• Dial through your arrears book on the auto-dialler and confirm the debtor's identity.
• Keep calls within the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act rules.
• Record reasons for non-payment so the credit team can adjust policy.
• Send written arrangements by SMS or email straight after each call.
• Update debtor contact details from tracing searches.
• Answer disputes about balances, interest and fees with a printed statement.

• You keep your tone respectful even when the debtor is not
• At least 6 months in collections, sales or a call centre
• Clear credit and criminal record
• Good with numbers, dates and payment calculations

• Uncapped monthly commission on collected rands
• Monthly incentives for the top three collectors
• Structured weekday hours with only occasional Saturdays

• Interviewers often role-play a difficult debtor; stay polite, get a date and an amount, and close the call.
• If you are already registered with the Council for Debt Collectors, put your registration number near the top of your CV.
