Employee Relations Advisor (Unionised Site)

Keeping a manufacturing plant in Soweto fair, legal and well staffed is the heart of this job. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Soweto-based, with most of your time spent at a manufacturing plant.

• Represent the company at CCMA conciliations and arbitrations.
• Consult with shop stewards and attend union meetings.
• Compile the Employment Equity report and the Workplace Skills Plan.
• Chair or initiate disciplinary hearings and write up the outcome.
• Update HR policies when labour law changes.

• Good report writing and Excel
• CCMA experience, at least at conciliation
• Solid working knowledge of the LRA, BCEA and EEA
• At least 3 years as an HR officer or generalist

• SABPP registration
• HR system experience such as Sage 300 People or PaySpace

• CPD and SABPP fees paid
• Annual performance bonus
• Company car or travel allowance for site visits
• Medical aid and provident fund contributions

• Name the bargaining councils or unions you have dealt with, as sector knowledge often decides the shortlist.
• Prepare for a case-study question on dismissing an employee fairly, and walk through procedure and substance.
