Behind every truck on the road is a controller; at a courier operations centre in Mbombela, that could be you. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

The site is in Mbombela; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Phone drivers when trucks stop too long or go off-route
• Compile daily reports on trips completed and late deliveries
• Book vehicle services, licence renewals and roadworthy tests
• Assign trucks and drivers to routes and track them on telematics
• Keep a register of PrDP and licence expiry dates for all drivers

• Matric
• At least 2 years in transport or logistics
• Able to work shifts in a 24-hour control office
• Clear on the phone with drivers and customers

• Previous truck driving experience
• Transport management system (TMS) experience

• Cellphone allowance for standby shifts
• Growth to transport manager
• Training on the fleet and tracking systems

• If you drove trucks before, say so. Controllers who know the road earn quick respect from drivers.
• Mention the tracking and Excel skills you have. Bring an example report if you are allowed to share one.
