Head Waiter (Family Restaurant)

You'll look after tables at a wine farm restaurant in Mossel Bay, from the first greeting to the final bill. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is in Mossel Bay (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Restock the bar fridges and help with the weekly stock count.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.

• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• Grade 10 or higher; matric is a plus
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• Happy to work nights, weekends and public holidays

• Responsible Service of Alcohol training
• Wine knowledge from a WSET Level 1 or wine farm stint
• A second language such as isiZulu, isiXhosa or Afrikaans

• Paid menu and wine tastings so you can sell with confidence
• Late-shift lift home within a set radius
• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Staff meal on every shift

• Recruiters ask about a difficult table, so have one real story ready about how you turned it around.
• Walk in with your CV between 2pm and 4pm when managers have time, not during lunch or dinner service.
