Job Description

Write clean code, review pull requests and fix what breaks at a fintech start-up in Durban Central. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is Durban Central-based, with most of your time spent at a fintech start-up.

What you'll actually do

Write, test and refactor code in your team's main language
Build and consume REST or GraphQL APIs
Write unit and integration tests before you merge
Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries
Document how your features work for support and new developers
Investigate production bugs using logs and monitoring dashboards
Handle personal data safely, with POPIA rules in mind

Must-haves

Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build
Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
Experience writing automated tests

Nice if you have

Docker and Kubernetes experience
Public GitHub portfolio or published app
Experience in regulated sectors such as banking or medical schemes
