Loss Control Officer (Mall Stores)

Retail in Kariega runs on thin margins, and a building-supplies store needs someone guarding its stock. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Kariega, Eastern Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Record every incident with photos, times and value of goods
• Search staff bags at exit points according to store policy
• Share trends with the store manager each week
• Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
• Walk the floor in plain clothes and watch for shoplifting behaviour
• Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft

• Good report writing
• Knowledge of lawful arrest and search under the Criminal Procedure Act
• Able to handle confrontation calmly
• Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4
• PSIRA registration, Grade C at least
• Discreet, observant and honest

• Experience giving evidence in court
• Previous store detective experience with case outcomes
• Understanding of stock systems and shrinkage reports

• Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
• Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)
