Job Description

Behind every good plate at this casual dining restaurant in Kempton Park is a cook who preps properly, and that could be you. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Kempton Park-based, with most of your time spent at a casual dining restaurant. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

What you'll actually do

Prep veg, sauces, marinades and portions from the daily mise en place list.
Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.
Label, date and rotate stock using first-in, first-out.
Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.
Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.
Help cost recipes and track waste on the weekly sheet.

Must-haves

Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
You take instruction from the head chef without drama
You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP

Nice if you have

Pastry or bakery training
Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking
